The UConn women continued their winning streak today when they beat Florida State at a game held at the Palace Resort in Cancun, Mexico and winning the Caribbean Classic Title.

The final score was UConn 83, Florida 71.

By winning the Caribbean Classic Championship, the Huskies clinched their 12th consecutive in-season tournament title, dating back to 1993-94. The Huskies have won each of their last 37 regular-season tournament games overall.

UConn now sits at a perfect 10-0 on the season, marking the second straight year and 10th in the last 13 overall that it has opened the season with 10 consecutive victories.

Florida State slips to 9-4 following the 12-point loss.

The Huskies also extended its winning streak vs. non-ranked opponents to 96 straight. The Huskies have also won each of their last 25 games against non-conference foes, following the victory over the Seminoles.

UConn once again wasted no time setting the tone as it raced out to a 13-0 lead over the initial 4:40 in a run that featured baskets by all five starters.

Montgomery had a solid first half as she connected on four 3-pointers and also dished out six assists, while playing all 20 minutes, to close out the half with 12 points.

Junior Tina Charles picked up two fouls midway through the opening frame within a span of 13 seconds, but Kaili McLaren came off the bench and put up six points, two rebounds and two assists over the final 11 minutes of the first half, keeping the Huskies’ dominance in the paint intact as they out-scored Florida State 22-6 in the lane before halftime and 42-16 for the game.

UConn led by as many as 22 points in the second half before Florida State put together a mini-rally to get to trim the lead to 63-52 with 10:22 remaining.

Charles continued to battle foul trouble after being hit with her fourth personal at 11:23 in the final stanza.

The Huskies responded with a 12-4 run over a four-minute stretch that saw the team hold the Seminoles without a field goal to clinch the victory.

McLaren continued her solid play off the bench in place of Charles. She finished the contest with 10 points and a career-best seven assists.

UConn moved the ball around throughout the game and recorded 31 assists on its 35 successful field goal attempts.

Joining Montgomery and McLaren in double-figure points was sophomore Maya Moore who notched 18.

UConn concludes it five-game December roadtrip on Sunday, Dec. 28, when it treks to Columbia, South Carolina, to take on Southeastern Conference foe, the University of South Carolina, in a 3 p.m. (ET) tip that will be televised live on Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) and SportSouth.

Renee Montgomery’s 25 points marked her ninth game with double-figure points this season and the 82nd of her career. It also represented her 15th career game with 20 or more points.

Maya Moore’s 18 points marked her 10th game in double-figure points this season and the 46th of her career in 48 career games.

Tina Charles’ 11 rebounds marked her third double-figure rebound game this season and the 31st of her career.

Renee Montgomery’s seven 3-point field goals tied her career-high and also tied for the second-highest total in UConn single-game annals.

Kaili McLaren’s 10 points marked her third game with double-figure points this season and the eighth of her career.

Today’s contest marked UConn’s fourth of a five-game road trip and its final in Cancun, Mexico, at the Caribbean Classic.

UConn extends its winning streak in regular-season tournament games to 37 straight and clinched its 12th consecutive in-season tournament championship following its title at the Caribbean Classic.

UConn moves to 203-11 all-time when playing as the nation’s No. 1 ranked team in the Associated Press Top-25.

UConn improves to 159-54 all-time in the month of December and has won each of its last 20 games played during the calendar’s final month.
