State police are investigating a report by a Mansfield woman that a masked man, wielding a knife, broke into her apartment in the early hours of Saturday morning, and attempted to sexually assault her.
Police say the suspect was able to unlock the apartment door by reaching in through a window.
Police say the woman was able to fight off the attacker by kicking him, and that she was not harmed.
Police do not identify the location of the apartment complex, saying only it is in proximity to the University of Connecticut.
Although State Police notified UConn Police of the attempted assault, there was no alert issued as of Sunday Sept. 6. The assault was reported to State Police between 3 and 4 a.m.
State Police searched the area with dogs, and alerted local residents about the intruder.
The suspect is described as a male about 5′ 7″ tall with a thin build.
