Now is the time to apply for Census 2010 jobs

Good paying, part-time jobs working for Census 2010 will begin in the spring. In order to be hired, however, you must now take a basic skills test and complete an application to be submitted at the test site.
The test takes 30 minutes. The entire session, including completing forms, instructions, taking the test and additional information takes about 1-1/2 to 2 hours, depending on the size of the test group.
Work for census takers (otherwise known as enumerators) will be primarily early evenings and weekends, when most people will be home to be interviewed.
And as often as possible, people will be assigned to work in their own communities.
You receive paid training and mileage reimbursement. You will likely be required to work a minimum of 20 hours. Wages range from $12 to $21 an hour, according to the Census 2010 Jobs Web site. Some clerical and supervisory positions may be available.
The ability to speak more than one language (including Spanish) and veteran’s status may improve your chances of being hired.
If you know of someone looking for additional money – including high school students who will be 18 when the job begins (early spring) – please pass along this information.
The Census Bureau needs thousands of employees to carry out this enormous and extremely important task of making sure everyone is counted. The results will help determine how state and federal grants are distributed for the next 10 years.
While Census jobs are temporary and part-time, the skills you acquire working for the Census may also help you in your search for full-time employment.
A number of tests are currently being held in Mansfield during the remainder of this month and into February.
You may take a test in any town. But please be sure to call the toll free jobs line at 1-866-861-2010 to register for a test (tell them that your Local Census Office[LCO] is Norwich, CT). Please note that tests with low enrollment may be cancelled.
More information is also available online at www.2010censusjobs.gov – it is highly recommended that you review the practice test that is available on this site.
Please pass this information along to anyone you know who may be interested.
