Mansfield Middle School Principal Jeff Cryan alerted parents today that the school’s water has tested positive for coliform bacteria.
The water was sent for testing last Thursday, April 1, after it was discovered that the school’s well house flooded as the result of days of heavy rain. School was closed the next day for the Good Friday holiday.
Cryan informed parents today that, “The test results show that we do have coliform bacteria in the water system. Our maintenance department has begun treating the system. Following the chlorination treatment, the system will be flushed and retested.”
The school will be provided with bottled water until the tap water is deemed safe to drink.
“Until we get satisfactory test results for the water system, we will provide bottled drinking water at dispensers located next to the hallway water fountains,” Cryan said in an e-mail alert to parents.
“The regular water fountains have been covered so that students don’t inadvertently drink from them. We have been advised that the tap water is safe for hand washing and toilet flushing,” he said.
