peaches-graphicStorrs Farmers Market is happy to announce a new opportunity for our friends and neighbors to access premium, locally grown and produced foods.

Beginning Wednesday, July 14 the Storrs Farmers Market will open the “Midweek Mini Market.”

Open every Wednesday from July 14 through September 29, the Midweek Mini Market will be set up in front of the Mansfield Community Center (behind the Town Hall, on Route 275-South Eagleville Road.

Hours will be from 3 – 5 p.m. – rain or shine.

Running low on veggies or missed a Saturday Market?  We can help – we’ll have plenty of CT Grown vegetables and fruits.

Don’t feel like cooking?  No problem!  We’ll have prepared foods ready for you.

Need an extra kick to get you through the work week?  We’ll have fiery hot sauces made with locally grown produce.

The Midweek Mini Market is ideal for our friends who work in town but live elsewhere.  Now, you can support local farming families without having to come back to town on your day off!

Of course, we’ll still be in the Town Hall parking lot every Saturday from now through November with an even greater selection of local fruits, veggies, beef, pork, lamb, jams, pies, breads, cookies and pastries, honey, maple syrup, cows’ and goats’ milk, goats’ milk cheeses and soaps, hand-spun wool, hot sauces, fresh roasted coffees, soups and sandwiches, fresh-made pizzas, hanging baskets, potted herbs, vegetable seedlings, and so much more!

Because everything at Storrs Farmers Market is CT Grown, the offerings will change with the seasons. For a rough guide of when your favorites will be available, you can refer to the Connecticut Crop Plan (in PDF format) at http://www.ct.gov/doag/lib/doag/marketing_files/crop_calendar.pdf

A bright idea

And on Saturday, July 10, the Town of Mansfield’s Energy Education Team will join us with information about CleanEnergyOptions.

Anyone can support clean, renewable electrical energy by purchasing it through their electric bill.  And it doesn’t have to cost more.

For each 100 residents that sign up for clean energy, the town earns one kilowatt worth of solar panels. We have only 6 more sign-ups to go to earn our 7th kilowatt!

This solar system is being placed on EO Smith’s rooftop.

To learn about CleanEnergyOptions, stop by the table featuring pictures of wind turbines and solar panels.
