Right, Reese, a 2-year-old white boxer, gives Nancy Lawson a hug during an adopt-a-pet event held at Mackey’s in Willimantic on Saturday, Dec. 4.

He is available through Second Chance Boxer Rescue of Woolrich, Maine.

Next, Miles, a 9-year-old Boston terrier, gives his friend, Boston terrier puppy Calie, a kiss. They are being cared for by the Boston Terrier Club and Rescue of Connecticut and are looking for permanent homes.

Next, Cheryl Williams got some licks from Natalie, a 6-year-old Australian shepherd.

Williams is a member of the Aussie Rescue & Placement Helpline, the official rescue organization of the Australian Shepherd Club of America.

And finally, something got the attention of Labrador retrievers Calvin and Luna, who were at the event with Labs4rescue Inc. of Killingworth.

Want to be an extra at a Storrs Center photo shoot?

The Storrs Center development team is having some professional photos taken on Thursday, May 16 – throughout the day – to be used on websites, marketing materials and other promotional uses. Image source: publicdomainpictures.net

“We’d love for you to participate in the photo shoot if you can. ‘Extras’ will be needed to show people walking, peeking in storefronts, dining outdoors or interacting with friends, children or pets.”

Paving Storrs Road – Route 195 in Mansfield

Milling and paving of Storrs Road (Route 195) – part of improvements being made to this main roadway associated with the Storrs Center development – is expected to begin on Friday, May 17, 2013.

As scheduled, the paving should be complete by Tuesday, May 21. Poor weather may delay these efforts.

Malloy proclaims National Teacher Day in CT

As a social studies teacher at Berlin High School, David Bosso has been able to enrich his teaching about world history and cultures with trips to Ghana, China, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Egypt.  On his blog, Global Wanderings, Bosso writes, "I have a keen desire to not only educate my students about the world around them, but also to learn as much as possible to better inform my own knowledge base."

National Teacher Day is part of Teacher Appreciation Week, which is celebrated May 6-10, 2013.
