Join Joshua's Trust for $10 and the cross-country skiing workshop is free.

A cross-country skiing workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Feb. 6 at the Allanach-Wolf Woodland on Back Road in North Windham.

The session, designed for beginners or people wishing to brush up on their skills, is presented by Eastern Mountain Sports and Joshua’s Trust.

Several pairs of EMS demo skis will be available, but participants are encouraged to bring their own.

The workshop is free for Joshua’s Trust members or the fee is $10 per person for non-members.

Non-members may join Joshua’s Trust at the basic level of $10 per individual/$20 for families, in which case there will be no fee for the workshop.

Pre-registration is required.  Call 860-455-0425 to secure a space.

Want to be an extra at a Storrs Center photo shoot?

“We’d love for you to participate in the photo shoot if you can. ‘Extras’ will be needed to show people walking, peeking in storefronts, dining outdoors or interacting with friends, children or pets.”

Paving Storrs Road – Route 195 in Mansfield

Milling and paving of Storrs Road (Route 195) – part of improvements being made to this main roadway associated with the Storrs Center development – is expected to begin on Friday, May 17, 2013.

As scheduled, the paving should be complete by Tuesday, May 21. Poor weather may delay these efforts.

Malloy proclaims National Teacher Day in CT

As a social studies teacher at Berlin High School, David Bosso has been able to enrich his teaching about world history and cultures with trips to Ghana, China, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Egypt.  On his blog, Global Wanderings, Bosso writes, "I have a keen desire to not only educate my students about the world around them, but also to learn as much as possible to better inform my own knowledge base."

National Teacher Day is part of Teacher Appreciation Week, which is celebrated May 6-10, 2013.
