University of Connecticut police are investigating a fatal pedestrian versus UConn shuttle bus accident that took place on campus around 8 p.m. Tuesday.
David Plamondon, 20, of Westminster, Mass., a UConn student who lived off-campus, died Tuesday as a result of his injuries, police said.
Plamondon’s exact cause of death will be determined by the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, police said.
The OCME said they had not yet determined the cause this morning.
Police said they were first notified of the accident by a witness who called 911 to report the incident, which took place at the intersection of Hillside Road and Alumni Drive.
According to police, officers along with UConn Fire Department personnel arrived on scene immediately after the call and rendered care to the pedestrian.
Police said paramedics were also called due the severity of injuries.
UConn police detectives, along with state police truck squad/accident reconstruction team members, processed the scene of the accident, police said.
Witnesses to the accident were also interviewed, police said.
“This is a somber reminder that the university community is not isolated from tragic events – such as this – occurring,” UConn Police Maj. Ronald Blicher said this morning.
Maj. Blicher said police continue to investigate the accident, but no charges or citations have been filed as of late this morning.
He said the bus was going northbound on Hillside Road and turning left onto Alumni Drive, while Plamondon was walking north on the west sidewalk and crossing at the intersection of Hillside.
Maj. Blicher said the pedestrian was “on or near the crosswalk” at the time of the accident.
The identity of the bus driver was not released.
An attempt to reach UConn spokesman Michael Kirk was not successful this morning.
An online listing has Plamondon as a member of the Lunenburg Phillies – a semi-pro team out of the Central New England Baseball League. He’s listed as an outfielder.
Anyone with information is urged to call police at (860) 486-4800.
