State Police have released the identity of the man found dead on June 26, 2012 at Mansfield Hollow State Park as William G. Murphy of Mansfield Center.
State Police Public Information Officer Lt. J. Paul Vance said Tuesday the death was considered a suicide but that the body would be examined by the state medical examiner.
According to a story published in the (Manchester) Journal Inquirer, Murphy had hung himself.
On May 1, 2012, a William G. Murphy of 145 Brookside Lane, Mansfield, CT was arrested by state police and charged with sexual assault of two minors.
HTNP.com was unable to confirm, today, whether the man who committed suicide and the man arrested for sexual assault is the same individual, although in both instances William G. Murphy was identified as being in his 40s.
According to police, a 47-year-old William G. Murphy was charged with two counts of 4th-degree sexual assault, 2nd-degree unlawful restraint and three counts of risk of injury to a minor.
The charges were the result of an investigation by the State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad of incidents that allegedly occurred in 2007 and 2008.
Murphy had pled not guilty to the charges, was out on bail and was scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court in August.
