Mansfield Today: Hearing coming up Oct. 14 on building fee increases Hearing coming up Oct. 14 on building fee increases ================================================================================ Brenda Sullivan on Friday, September 26, 2008 The town council is expected at its Oct. 14 meeting to consider amendments to a building-construction ordinance that would increase building permit fees. [Note: the town council's meeting is moved to Tuesday, Oct. 14 because of the Columbus Day holiday that falls on Monday, Oct. 13.] According to Director of Building and Housing Inspections Mike Ninteau, the town council will consider a proposal to increase building permit fees, and other related fees, by 3.5 percent for residential projects and by 4 percent for commercial projects. This would mean an increase from $12 to $12.50 per $1,000 of construction value (labor and materials) for residential construction, and from $14 to $14.50 per $1,000 of construction value for commercial projects, Ninteau said today. If the amendments are approved by the town council, the fee changes would go into effect 21 days after they are published in a local newspaper, or approximately Nov. 5, 2008. A public hearing on the proposed ordinance amendments is planned for 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 14 in the council chambers in the Audrey P. Beck Municipal Building, 4 South Eagleville Road (Rt. 275). Additional information will be available on the town's Web site approximately one week before the meeting.
