The Huskies begin the postseason on Saturday, Nov. 8 when they meet Louisville in the BIG EAST semifinals at 1:30 p.m. at UConn's George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.

University of Connecticut senior Lauren Aird has been selected as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 2, conference officials announced Monday.

And UConn junior Andrea Mainiero, goalkeeper was selected to the weekly BIG EAST Honor Roll, following a week which saw UConn post a pair of wins and clinch a share of the 2008 BIG EAST Regular Season Title.

UConn has garnered a total of five BIG EAST weekly honors this season. Aird's selection marked her first of the season and the second of her career.

She totaled five goals during UConn's 2-0 week that included wins over Georgetown and Villanova.  Aird matched her career high with three goals in the win over the Hoyas, before following with a pair of scores in the victory at Villanova - which clinched a share of the conference regular season title for the Huskies.

Aird's five goals upped her career total to 67 - which ranks as the third-highest total in UConn annals.

Mainero was named to the Honor Roll after recording her sixth shutout of the season in UConn's 4-0 win at Villanova. Mainiero made a pair of key saves to keep the momentum in the Huskies' favor in the win over the Wildcats.  With the score 1-0 UConn, she made a diving save to stop a 1-on-1 Villanova breakaway attempt before following with a block of a penalty shot with UConn leading 2-0 to preserve the shutout.

The Huskies begin the postseason on Saturday, Nov. 8 when they meet Louisville in the BIG EAST semifinals.  Game time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at UConn's George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.

Meet the press
Brenda Sullivan image While many readers will know me from The Courant, The Chronicle and The Reminder... let me introduce myself as the editor of Mansfield Today. I've been a reporter in this area for many years and first began covering Mansfield news when I worked for The Chronicle in 1991. I am very excited about this new publication because like many of you, I no longer have a subscription to a printed newspaper, and you can have direct input on the stories you read via comments at the end of each article. If you happen to see me out and about in town, please feel free to say "Hello," and let me know what you think of this publication.
