Brown is also one of 15 semifinalists for the Maxwell Award given to the top player in the country, and one of 10 semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award given to the top running back in the country.

University of Connecticut junior running back Donald Brown (Atlantic Highlands, N.J.) has been named one of 15 “Players to Watch” for the 2008 Player of the Year Award, by The Walter Camp Football Foundation.

Brown is currently the leading rusher in the country with 156.22 yards per game.

He is also one of 15 semifinalists for the Maxwell Award given to the top player in the country, and one of 10 semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award given to the top running back in the country.

He has 254 carries this year - 1,406 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Brown is already UConn’s career leader in rushing attempts with 585, has 30 career rushing TDs for third place in Husky history, and is second in all-time rushing yards with 3,123 – needing just 65 more yards to become the leader in that category.

UConn has a 6-3 record and a 2-2 mark in the BIG EAST.

Walter Camp, “The Father of American football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889.

A former Yale University athlete and football coach, Camp is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to 11 men per side.

The Walter Camp Football Foundation – a New Haven-based all-volunteer group – was founded in 1967 to perpetuate Camp's ideals and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team.

The 15 “Players to Watch” for the 2008 Walter Camp Player of the Year award include:

Meet the press
Brenda Sullivan image While many readers will know me from The Courant, The Chronicle and The Reminder... let me introduce myself as the editor of Mansfield Today. I've been a reporter in this area for many years and first began covering Mansfield news when I worked for The Chronicle in 1991. I am very excited about this new publication because like many of you, I no longer have a subscription to a printed newspaper, and you can have direct input on the stories you read via comments at the end of each article. If you happen to see me out and about in town, please feel free to say "Hello," and let me know what you think of this publication.
