UConn Falls 3-2 at Boston College in Women's Ice Hockey
Despite out shooting the opposition 37-26, the University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team lost a 3-2 decision at Kelley Rink to Boston College.
Michelle Binning tallied her ninth goal of the season, also her sixth power-play mark for the Huskies.Alexandra Garcia stepped between the pipes to begin the second period, after Boston College jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first.
Danielle Welch scored her fifth of the season on the power play, with an assist from Thunstrom at 10:13.
Megan Shea added to the Eagle edge (2-0) with less than five minutes remaining in the first period of play.
Kelli Stack, who came in as the co-scoring leader in the Hockey East, got her ninth of the season at 8:02, giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead in the second period.
Still in the second period, Jennifer Chaisson - with the centering pass - fed the puck to Binning, who put it past Molly Schaus for her ninth goal of the season.
Sami Evelyn also had an assist on Binning's team-best sixth power-play goal of the year at 13:12
Binning won the face-off to the right of Schaus, maintaining Husky possession on the power play in the third period.
Cristin Allen got her 10th assist of the season with a pass from Amy Hollstein, giving the puck to Thibault, who hit the back of the net at 12:49 to bring UConn within one goal (3-2).
Binning's shot moments later, with the Huskies on the power play again, went just wide.
UConn forced Schaus to make several saves in the waning minutes of the period, as head coach Heather Linstad pulled Garcia for the extra attacker with less than a minute remaining.
Garcia finished the night with 15 saves in her fourth appearance in the crease for the Huskies.
UConn continues on the road with a 2 p.m. game at Providence on Sunday Nov. 16.
The Huskies will take on the Eagles again at a 7 p.m. game on Thursday, Nov. 20.
